The paper of which he was in charge was laid on the table.

Hamilton remarked that there was, in the hands of the Earl of Leven, a communication from the Prince by whose authority the Estates had been convoked.

That communication seemed to be entitled to precedence.

The Convention was of the same opinion; and the well weighed and prudent letter of William was read.
It was then moved that the letter of James should be opened.

The Whigs objected that it might possibly contain a mandate dissolving the Convention.
