The King retired to rest.

Horses were in waiting for the Prince and Ormond, who, as soon as they left the table, mounted and rode off.

They were accompanied by the Earl of Drumlanrig, eldest son of the Duke of Queensberry.

The defection of this young nobleman was no insignificant event.
