Churchill and some of his principal accomplices were assembled at Salisbury.

Two of the conspirators, Kirke and Trelawney, had proceeded to Warminster, where their regiments were posted.

All was ripe for the execution of the long meditated treason.
Churchill advised the King to visit Warminster, and to inspect the troops stationed there.

James assented; and his coach was at the door of the episcopal palace when his nose began to bleed violently.

He was forced to postpone his expedition and to put himself under medical treatment.
