I never heard Miss Walder named till I received your letter, and never knew of the existence of the Palladian Order, if it does exist, till I saw it mentioned in articles in 'Light' and the 'Freemason's Chronicle' (London)....

With reference to the particular statements in this copy of the _Memoires_, no doubt the writer has succeeded in getting hold of the facts in most cases as to the official positions of the parties named, which of course are easily obtained; the little details regarding some of us would indicate the presence of an agent in our midst or near at hand.

The 'inventions' and most slanderous statements regarding most of us are, however, outrageously false and wicked.

My house has never had the honour( !!!) of entertaining Miss Walder or any other lady of like character; it is not a chemical laboratory, and I have never exercised myself in these _mysterious experiences_ either there or elsewhere.

I am a humble member of the Episcopal Church of Scotland, and, I trust, a sincere follower of the Master....
