She seems always out of everything.

I'm sure she's never had a decent Christmas in her life.

I believe she's fond of her father, though I don't think he took very much notice of her--she let out once that he was so disappointed she wasn't a boy.

But Mrs.Barker, the housekeeper, must have been a most terrible person.

Rona had no chance at all.
"Motherkins, she's never seen a real English home, and I'd like to show her ours.
