had a Bible also, as he was very religious.
The huge boulders which dammed the river had fallen from the cliffs on the left within a comparatively recent time, transforming an ordinary rapid into the fall; actually damming the water till it is smooth for half a mile above.

The largest block of stone is the one in the middle.
It is about twenty five feet square.
