Again protesting against the jurisdiction of the Court and appealing to Rome, Catherine withdrew.

Touched by her appeal, Henry burst out in her praise.

"She is, my Lords," he said, "as true, as obedient, and as conformable a wife, as I could, in my phantasy, wish or desire.

She hath all the virtuous qualities that ought to be in a woman of her dignity, or in any other of baser estate."[624] (p.

222) But these qualities had nothing to do with the pitiless forms of law.
The legate, overruled her protest, refused her appeal, and summoned her back.
