But how I am to go without my horse, I don't know." "There are the spare horses," Reuben said "Fortunately we have still got six of them." "So we have," Dick exclaimed joyfully.

"I had forgotten all about them.

What luck, our bringing them with us!" The other settlers all announced their intention of continuing the chase, as long as Reuben was willing to push on.
"I will tell you what my idea is," Reuben said.

"The horses are already worn out and, by the end of another day, they will be half mad with thirst.
