I found the farmhouse, passed the sentry, and was admitted to the presence of two young officers of the Glasgow Highlanders.

I told them who I was and how I had been bidden by the patrol officer to seek refuge with them.

They received me most cordially and told me they had a spare heap of straw in the room.

They not only said they would arrange for me for the night, but they called their servant and told him to get me some supper.

They said I looked worn out.
