On the other side of the wall, we could hear the bullets striking.

As I had the Blessed Sacrament with me I was able to give communion to a number of the wounded.

By this time the grey of approaching day began to silver the eastern sky.

It was indeed a comfort to feel that the great clockwork of the universe went on just as if nothing was happening.

Over and over again in the war the approach of dawn has put new life into one.
