The sanitar then seemed to slip away leaving him alone with a vague sense of disaster.

The sun had set, but there was a moon, full and high, and now by its light he could see that his wagon was standing outside the gate of the house at M----.

There was the yard, the bandaging-room, the long faded wall of the house, the barn, but where?
...

where ?...

He sat up, then jumped down on to the road.
