The world-protectors are the eight gods next below the trine supreme, Brahma, Siva, and Vishnu.

They are Indra, the god of heaven; Surya, the god of the sun; Soma or Chandra, the god of the moon; Agni, the god of fire; Pavana, the god of the wind; Kuvera, the god of wealth; Varuna, the god of water; Yama, the god of the infernal regions.

At present four only of these gods are introduced; Indra, Yama, Agni, and Varuna.
