Samiento and Mendana sail from Peru in search of Western Islands, and Continental Land; they discover the Solomon Islands.

Sarmiento and Mendana return to America.
1595.

Mendana and Pedro Fernandez de Queiroz set sail from Peru in search of the Solomon Islands; they fail in their attempt, and reach the island of Santa Cruz, to the West of the Solomons, where they attempt a settlement.
1596.

The remnant of Mendana's expedition reach New Spain.
1605-6.

De Queiroz sets sail from Peru, with the object of renewing the attempt at settlement in the island of Santa Cruz, and from thence to search for the Great Australian Continent.
