There she left me, but bid me not to undress; and presently after I had slept, I know not how many hours, I was awakened by her entrance with a dim light, and she bid me rise but speak low, as she had somewhat of moment to say to me.

She asked me then of myself and my kindred; and I asked her many things, and to my questions she gave ready response.

Last of all, I dared to name the lost treasure, and I saw a new look come upon her face.

I said that I had heard enough to make me think it had been stolen and hidden in the forest, and I asked her if in her wanderings there she had heard aught of it.

I saw that the question moved her.
