As the train thundered into the station she went to his side and looked forth also.
The next moment, with a shock that was physical, she saw the object of his interest.

Hugh Chesyl, with a face of grave perturbation, was standing on the platform, searching this way and that.

It was evident that he had but just arrived at the station, and in a flash she divined the reason of his coming.

Quite obviously he was looking for her.
Sharply she withdrew herself from the window, and in the same moment Jeff also turned.

Their eyes met, and Doris caught her breath.
For it was as if a sword had pierced her.
