London’s Underworld

CHAPTER VIII
12/21

While she was quite a child her mother died, and at an early age she managed her father's household.

She made the acquaintance of a clever and accomplished man who was an accountant.

He was older than she, and of dissipated habits.

Her father had introduced him to his home and daughter, little thinking of the consequences that ensued.

She had no mother to guide her, she was often lonely, for her father was immersed in his business.

This only intensified her love and led to quarrels with her father.
Ultimately they married, and had a good home and two servants.
