CHAPTER XX.
SPORT IN TURKEY.
I will now endeavour to give my readers some idea of life at Constantinople.

If the resident is a sportsman he can find plenty of amusement, game of all descriptions being plentiful.

I may say that the shooting begins about September 1, when great flights of quails pass the environs of Constantinople, from the threatening winter of Russia to the warmer climate of Egypt, and afford capital amusement.

But really to enjoy the sport it is necessary to go somewhat far, within ten miles of Constantinople.

The fields during the quail season are filled with so-called sportsmen to such an extent that one has every chance of being mistaken for a quail, and potted accordingly.
