Long before we reached Juquila I felt, for the first time in Mexico, that I was suffering from fever.

After seven and a half hours on the road, we reached the town at 1:30 in the afternoon, and went at once to the town-house, where we were well received, and arrangements were made for our comfort.

When they saw that I was suffering, they brought out hammocks, of which I made no use.

Making myself a bed of blankets upon the floor, I lay down in my misery and covered myself from the world, a blanket over my head.

After some hours, I felt that we were losing time, and that we must, at least, make arrangements for the work of the following day.
