It would never do for the prisoner to be entirely dependent upon them for supplies of the precious commodity; and yet what else was to be done?
"I must think about it," cried Bertram.

"I shall never rest till I have thought of some method.

Would we had not left it so long! We have had all these years to make our plans, and we have never thought of this thing till trouble seems like to be at the very doors.
"Still it may but be our fantasy.

Neither Brother Emmanuel nor any other may need the shelter of this room.

We will trust it may be so.
"Yet I will cudgel my brains for a plan.
