The sharp-faced chief now came up, and said something to Wyatt.

Braxton replied in the Indian tongue.
"I didn't know that you understood any Shawnee," said Paul in surprise, as the chief turned away.
"I've picked it up, a word here and a word there," replied Wyatt, "and I find it very useful now.

The Chief--Red Eagle is his name--says that if you'll give 'em no trouble, he won't bind your hands again, for the present, anyway.

I've followed that plan, and I've found it a heap easier for myself." Paul pondered a little.

Braxton Wyatt's advice certainly seemed good, and he did not wish to be bound again.
