I'm getting old--I'm getting old, and I began too late, and that's the worst that can happen to a woman.

Do you know I never had a love affair in my life," she pursued bitterly after a moment.

"I never had love, or pleasure, or anything but work and duty--and now it's too late.

It's too late for it all," she finished, rising to take her toast from the oven.
"Poor thing, she exaggerates so dreadfully," thought Gabriella.

"I believe it comes from drinking too much green tea"; and she resolved that she would never touch green tea as long as she lived.
