Catesby's first object was to examine the packet he had obtained from the Earl of Salisbury, and withdrawing to a corner, he read over the papers one by one carefully.
Guy Fawkes watched his countenance as he perused them, but he asked no questions.

Many of the documents appeared to have little interest, for Catesby tossed them aside with an exclamation of disappointment.

At length, however, a small note dropped from the bundle.

Catesby picked it up, opened it, and his whole expression changed.

His brow grew contracted; and, springing to his feet, he uttered an ejaculation of rage, crying, "It is as I suspected.
