It is used only at grand functions, such as the meetings of the General Convention.

It was an occasion of great rejoicing as well as a cause for devout gratitude when the magnificent sum of one hundred and four thousand dollars was reverently placed on the Altar.

Behind all this was the love which made the large offering possible, behind it too the devotion which at this most significant and inspiring service, led fully a thousand faithful women to draw nigh to their divine Lord in that blessed Eucharist which quickens the soul into newness of life.

The sermon at the service of the United Offering was preached by Right Rev.Dr.Nichols, Bishop of California, from St.Luke, chapter ii, verses 22-24, and was one of remarkable power, rehearsing the righteous acts and noble deeds wrought by women in all ages.
One of the most noted meetings during the sessions of the Convention was held in Mechanics' Pavilion, on the evening of Tuesday, October 8th.

It was probably the greatest gathering ever brought together on the Pacific coast in the interest of Missions or of Religion.
