The Judge silently examines every page of the account-book two years old.

Suddenly he looks up.

'This receipt,' he says, 'was given for an account rendered eighteen months ago.

Here in this older book are the entries corresponding with it.

The present claim is for a second series of articles which happened to come to the same amount, and the Defendant, finding that the receipt was not dated, has endeavoured to make it do duty for the two.' 'I tould you so,' interrupts the Plaintiff.
