You knew what was the almost unanimous desire of the Republicans of other States; and you spurned and insulted them.

Now go ahead and fight it through.

You are in for it, and it does no good to make up wry faces.

What I have said in the 'Tribune' since the fight was resolved on, has been in good faith, intended to help you through.

If Lincoln would fight up to the work also, you might get through--if he apologizes, and retreats, he is lost, and all others go down with him.
