All the color left Scarborough's face.

"Betrayed is a strong word," he said.
"A strong word, senator," answered Dr.Hargrave, "and used deliberately.
I wish you good day, sir." Hargrave was one of those few men who are respected without any reservation, and whose respect is, therefore, not given up without a sense of heavy loss.
