"Naw, my wife's gone eawt; hoo'll not be mony minutes.

Hoo's here neaw." A clean little pale woman came up, with a child in her arms, and we went in.

They had not much furniture in the small kitchen, which was the only place we saw, but everything was sweet and orderly.

Their income was, as usual in relief cases, about one shilling a head per week.

"You had some lodgers," said my friend.
