It was like him, this plan for mending all past errors in a moment, for a summary and energetic repentance.

She could hardly help laughing; yet far within her heart made a leap towards him--beaten back at once by its own sad knowledge.
She turned away from him--away from his handsome face, and that touch in him of the 'imperishable child,' which moved and pleased her so.
