Both ladies stepped in and Mina stepped in after them.

The latter had known so well how to make herself liked by them that they were taking her to town, for Mina had wished to become a maid in the city to get away from country people.

One of the ladies was to take her as chambermaid, but it had not been settled yet which of them would do so.
Esther was terribly indignant because Mina was leaving a good house for no reason whatsoever.
