He tried to work in the packing room, but walls smothered him and again he sought the open.
He espied a bundle of osier-bound, moss-covered ferns that he had found in the woods, and brought the shovel to transplant them; but the work worried him, and he hurried through with it.

Then he looked for something else to do and saw an ax.

He caught it up and with lusty strokes began swinging it.

When he had chopped wood until he was very tired he went to bed.

Sleep came to the strong, young frame and he awoke in the morning refreshed and hopeful.
He wondered why he had bothered Doctor Carey.
