The crew cut up all loose lumber, boxes, etc., and put them in the bunkers for fuel.

The day was overcast, with occasional snowfalls, the temperature +12ー Fahr.

The ice in our neighbourhood was quiet, but in the distance pressure was at work.

The wind freshened in the evening, and we ran a wire-mooring astern.

The barometer at 11 p.m.stood at 28.96, the lowest since the gales of July.
