"I wish I could do as well every day; but these are bad times for us, and money is precious scarce, I can tell you." Harry soon rejoined Jacques and Marie.

There were but few words said as they made their way through the streets, for Marie was weakened by her long imprisonment, and shaken by what she had gone through.
She had not asked a single question as to what had become of Lebat; but she had no doubt that he was killed.
