She felt humbled, the more so that he had only bowed his acknowledgment to her apology. For more than an hour she watched him, as he paced up and down between the boat-house and the shore; then he advanced a little toward her shelter, and she shrank into her bed, after gently closing the door.
In a few moments she crept again to peep forth, and to see if he were still there; but he had disappeared. The following morning Helen was surprised to see the boat riding at anchor in the surf, and Hazel busily engaged on her trim.
